Chair course 8-13 April 2019

I do like a chair course! 5 brave souls came to the Devon Green Wood Centre and, taking an ash log each, made a chair. This course is different from my others, being largely about honing green woodworking skills to make a beautiful chair. I say different as there is less room for “design”. The design cannot really be improved on, just tweaked a bit. These are highly functional, elegant, light and strong pieces of furniture, requiring no glue pins or nails - simply jointed using the unique qualities of green wood. For many it was their first experience of green woodworking - taking a fresh cut log and splitting it, shaving and jointing components into a light and strong framework, then weaving a seat. It is always a wonderful journey to take people on.
