Toby Hodges Spoon Carving Course

Toby came on my Introduction to Green Wood Furniture Making in January of 2020. He was 15, and he made a fabulous table. During the first lockdown he worked with me - initially making bird boxes and bee homes, but proved himself to be a natural with wood, and he soon began to take on more advanced work. He started his apprenticeship with me the following October, and completed it two years later. His tutor said of him that he was by far the most talented woodworker he had taught, and that in many ways Toby’s skills surpassed his own!

He has since proved himself to have a great teaching style, and to have a good eye for design and details. I have been encouraging him to begin running his own Spoon Carving Courses, and this September he will be holding his first at my workshop. Details below.

Come along and carve a spoon for a day! Learn how to sustainably turn a log into a finished spoon using only hand tools and age old techniques. All tools will be included along with tea, coffee and cake. Just bring along some food and water for the day and clothes to work outside
