The Table Course
Hand-craft your own table.
Move beyond basic projects. This immersive, two-part course equips you with specialized jigs and techniques to design and build a stunning, large-scale table for your dining room, kitchen, or patio—a unique piece to last for generations.
Accessible Craftsmanship
Over several years, I have developed a unique system of jigs and methods that simplify two major challenges: working with large green wood components and flattening substantial seasoned slabs. On this course, you will learn these methods, enabling you to create furniture of a scale and quality you might not have thought possible in a home workshop using common hand and portable power tools.
Course Structure & Journey
The course is thoughtfully paced over two sessions to work with the unique properties of green wood:
Session One (6 Days): Design, timber selection (including a visit to a local sawmill), and the initial shaping and preparation of your table's components using traditional green woodworking tools (froe, drawknife, etc.).
Drying Period: Your wood seasons, allowing time for shrinkage to occur before assembly.
Session Two (3 Days): Return to assemble, fine-tune, and finish your table, applying techniques for joining boards and creating a stable, beautiful final piece.
Is This Course For You?
Perfect For: Intermediate woodworkers seeking a challenging and deeply rewarding project. It is also an exceptional experience for couples to create their future family table together.
Skills Required: Some prior woodworking experience is necessary to get the most from this advanced course.
Creative Freedom: Explore combining traditional woodwork with materials like glass or steel for a truly custom design.
Location & Practical Details
Venue: Devon Green Wood Centre, South Devon.
2026 Dates:
Week 1 is taking place on 28th May to 3rd June 2026
Week 2 will take place on 24th to 26th October 2026.
