The prototype for the Salix chair has been living in my daughter’s (age 4 and a half) bedroom for some time. Its wide seat meant it was ideal for pre-bedtime stories. She has rather outgrown it now - its a bit of a squash, so it has sallied forth and up into our new office, where it will become part of the new story of Peter Lanyon Furniture. It has been replaced by a rather functional desk, and a child’s chair, made especially for her many years ago, but only now the right size. She is using her desk to create her own magnificent stories of Pinky (the friendly monster) and the bunnies, and Pinky and the Wolf.

My new apprentice Lulu and I have created an on-site office, so i can conduct my admin affairs during working hours, so freeing up precious family time.

A 6-day Seating Project for the Community Orchard at Ham Woods.  Using some money left over from a Peter Randal-Page sculpture commission, the Friends of Ham Woods asked for proposals for some seating for their recently planted orchard.

Our two day introduction to green woodworking course with a couple of returners.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been making a bench with the Whitleigh community. We used a lovely large piece of sweet chestnut which we managed to get our 7 uprights out of and a piece of sweet chestnut slab for the seat. They are back at the workshop now to dry and some of the members of the community will be joining us at the workshop in a couple of months to perfect the pieces. Here is the stage of the project.

When I started my furniture making career as a student at Rycotewood College, I had the sole purpose of wanting to learn to make furniture to a high standard. The training was rigorous, and challenging at times, but slowly I learnt to mark out precisely, and cut accurately to a line. To hone my tools to a razor edge, and to work methodically and carefully to a successful conclusion. I was always however, glad to see the finished pieces leave the workshop.

Commissioned at Made London in 2017, for a house in Regents Park.

The customer saw the original “Scritti” desk at the Devon Guild Summer Show in 2017, and wanted something similar, but narrower for his hallway.

A commission for a couple who saw my work at a Christmas show, and bought it as a joint golden wedding present for each other.

This was a lovely commission for a couple who had seen and fallen in love with my Scritti desk at Made London in October 2016.

The cleaving and shaping of components took place in the Rotherfold Square over the summer holidays of 2015, with assembly taking place in my workshop.  The bench was then disassembled and installation took place in the square in November.

A five-day project to make a bench for the community orchard.  It took place during the winter of 2014 -15.  The project involved a core group of six people, with addition support during the ceremonial cleaving of the oak during apple day, and installation which coincided with the annual wassail.

Completed in May 2014.  The building of two benches to commemorate the loss of life of the Bedford boys who were stationed at MacAndrews Field in Ivybridge, prior to the D-Day landings.  The project was completed by many students and volunteers on other community projects that I have worked with over the years.   Approximately 1200 volunteer hourse went in to making these benches.
